In this digital age where everyone has a smart phone with amazing camera features giving you great quality of images to put on social media, why would you in the first place choose a professional photographer? Even, if you do, why would you pay so much?
Before we answer these questions, let me ask you another question……
Which of these do you like better?
If you’ve chosen the ones on the bottom, then go ahead and read this write up!
All images of babies look very cute, and yet there is a preference you have made. The bottom images have a touch of magic to it…the skill of a professional.
“A photographers price is going to be your first clue to their experience, education and talent level”.
Simply put, you’re not just paying for the actual photograph, you’re paying for the time and expertise in creating the image itself. Professionalism is a package of skill, acquired through years of experience. It involves much more than picking up a nice camera and pointing and shooting!
Here are 5 reasons you need to reconsider before you generalise Professional Photographers are expensive.
Time
You might see it as a 1-2 hour session. But what you may ignore is the amount of time spent before and after the 1-2 hour session with you. The time taken in planning a session, discussing and clarifying all your doubts, preparing you for the session, setting up the theme, time spent on post processing the images and the designing the print products.
Investment in Gears, Equipments and Props
Photographers don’t compromise with the quality of their gear, software licenses and storage solutions. They spend thousands and thousands and thousands of rupees to buy professional equipments, like cameras, lenses, lights, tripods, backdrops and even props from all around the world, just to make sure your images look perfect, unique and premium.
Uniqueness & Quality
Professionals have their unique style yet every photoshoot will look different. They know how to infuse freshness. The quality of photos are supreme. They will give you the best they can. They are ready to face challenges and don’t back off from tough situations. They would travel to any possible location and will shoot to the best of their ability. They give you their valuable time. They don’t run for multiple sessions within a day. They would rather do one quality photoshoot.
Experience
Experience is the one thing that may beat everything. They can advice you over a number of things which you would not be able to decide. They know whats right and what could go wrong. Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other learnings involved, such as: software programs used to edit and print photographs; to run the business, and let’s not forget they need to have people skills, to be able to communicate, to make people comfortable in front of the camera – and posing people to make them look their best, yet completely natural in a photograph is a skill all by itself, that comes only through experience!
and above all….
Its their Living!
Like every other working citizen, it is their bread earner. They have bills to pay too, they have mouths to feed too.
The truth is that you get what you pay for. You will get photographs worth the money involved.
All it takes is a little compromise over a 'weekend binge with friends' or a 'splurged movie night', to create those beautiful frames that you will cherish for generations to come. Don’t think twice, there isn’t really a second chance.
